VIDEO: DONUT HOCKEY – THE PERFECT GAME FOR SCHOOLS!

Raphael Niederer worked out his Bachelor thesis at DSBG of Basel University about how suitable Donut Hockey is for schools/PE teaching. See the results in the following video (sorry in german language only, but there are a lot of visuals. Enjoy!)

BACHELOR THESIS 1/2017, DSBG UNIVERSITY OF BASEL

Donut Hockey – the perfect game for PE classes? Samuel Hunziker followed up this question within his bachelor thesis at Basel University. Samuel asked 144 students in the area of Basel after teaching a demo class of both Floorball and Donut Hockey about their view. Floorball was chosen as comparison as it is very well established game in Swiss PE teaching and Donut Hockey is structurally similar to Floorball. The goal of this work was to find out how to find the most easy and fun approach to hockey games for beginners. We love both Floorball and Donut Hockey and our goal is to motivate even more people to play games – even those who might be a bit challenged by the technical skills of Floorball.

DONUT HOCKEY IS EASIER TO LEARN!

Out of 144 students, 65% think that Donut Hockey is easier to play than Floorball, 37% think Floorball is easier, 42% think both disciplines are equal in their level of difficulty. Very interesting is the gender comparison: It is obvious that especially ladies find an easier approach to Donut Hockey than to Floorball.

DONUT HOCKEY IS FUN!

We are very happy to see that both discipline were loved a lot by 33% of the students. 52% likes Donut Hockey more than Floorball, 15% prefer Floorball. The results regarding the gender aspect are almost equal.

PE TEACHERS LOVE DONUT HOCKEY

All teachers who learned about the sport would love to play it again with their students. During the demonstration classes they could observe the following aspects:

  • Half of the teachers could see a positive change in some students due to motivation and activity during class.
  • The greatest benefit of Donut Hockey is the easy handling of the material. This lets all students participate in the game and get opportunities to succeed. Donut Hockey is considered as a very integrative game.
